How to make Childrens Leggings or Leg Warmers
(Click the Images to see them full sized)
Purchase or use a pair of Knee High Socks
These came from the Dollar Store.
Cut the socks off straight just before the heel.
On the foot part of the sock, cut off the heal.
Cut off the toe part of the footed area, making a straight rectangular piece.
Turn the rectangular piece inside out and sew a seam up the straight side.
This will make it less wide than the legging, creating a cuff look.
My serger doesn't do the knit stitch, so I serged and did a zigzag stitch with my sewing machine.
My seam was right on the edge, the fold is still there.
Do not cut anything off or cut apart.
Fold the rectangular piece in half with right sides out.
Turn your sock or legging inside out.
Put the cuff inside the legging, with right sides together. Pin around the edge.
Sew a ZigZag stitch around with the sewing machine, then Serge the edge.

If you don't have a Serger, you should be able to do another row of zigzag stitches right on the edge.
Turn them right side out and you are done. The new cuff edge is the bottom of the leggings, store finished edge is the top.
